Family Dinner + Devotional= Debate

Should a family devotional turn into an hour debate on cuss words?  We have been visiting a new church that has started a month long family devo on stewardship. What I love about this idea is that it will focus on how we are stewards of all that God has given us, our time, talents, treasures and testimony.  This week is focused on our testimony, so we started last night as we all sat around the dinner table.
What should have been about a ten minute event focusing on sharing our love for Christ with our family, turned into a thirty minute debate on cussing.  Do we show our love of Christ by the way we treat and talk to each other?  That is really our testimony on a day to day basis.
Have words changed over the years, does using any word in anger or frustration equal cussing?
I like the idea of a family that can read a scripture or a devotional and debate and discuss their ideas.  I love that what should have been a short time together turned into almost an hour of family time.  I am excited to see what tonight brings and where we end up as a family in thirty days.
